Recorded in 2006.

The idea of ‘’Par delà monts et forêts’’ which mean ‘’over hills and forests’’ came over in the year 2006. It was a burst of creative energy. It may sound cheesy but I was sort of compelled to make it happen so to speak. It was all the time in my mind. Soon I fixed the idea of having 30 songs of 2 minutes each. Each one would be a piece of a puzzle in a way. The choice of having a drum machine was also clear from the beginning. The purpose was to have a rigid and artificial backbone to put beneath the more chaotic part of the guitars. I wanted to make and interaction, sometime in tension, sometime in harmony between the artificial and the organic. The more the album goes, the less the drum sounds like a drum. It’s more of a techno beat near the end. With that in mind, I went with my feelings, improvising more or less with the guitars. We could compare it an abstract painting. The 2 minutes marks per songs and the machine drum are the canvas and the painting is the guitars. Even though, sometimes I overpassed those barriers and made some songs longer when I had the feeling that they were not finished within 2 minutes. Beside drums and guitars, there’s a simple synth line behind the entire album. It was made as a narrative. All the fragments are linked together by a metaphysical entity, be it god or whatever, which is the sound of the synth. It’s always there, sometime we hear it, and sometimes it’s more difficult.

I didn’t felt the need to had texts, thus voices. I let the music do the talking. Recently, (in 2013), when I decided to make it available, It cut the 30 songs to 21 because some of them were less good or redundant. Also it would have made the album around 70 minutes: maybe a little overlong.

I intended ‘’Par delà monts et forêts’’ to be a soundtrack. There’s no message behind it except that it’s a somewhat ‘’dark’’ spiritual world and we have to thrive in it. Each song is a little piece of a journey, more or less disjointed. You have to connect the dot between the parts and hope to arrive in one piece at the end. Or just let drift you away and see what you will discover. There’s 21 small worlds to explore. All in a big one that’s coherent at the end.
